Meth Awareness and Prevention Project (MAPP)-South Dakota -
Launched in 2001, MAPP-SD encourages communities to form coalitions of
citizens, business and community leaders, law enforcement and faith based
organizations to examine methamphetamine issues in their community.
As of August 3, 2006, there were 10 drug courts in existence or
being planned in South Dakota. Three drug courts had been operating for more
than 2 years, 1 was recently implemented, and 6 were being planned at that
time. Approximately 60% of the Federally-sentenced drug cases in South Dakota
involved methamphetamine.
During 2005, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) reported
making 85 arrests for drug violations in South Dakota. There were 405 juvenile
and 2,147 adult arrests for drug possession in South Dakota during 2004.
