Founded in 1989, the mission of the BEST Coalition is to implement and
facilitate school, family, and community partnerships to promote a safe and
drug-free lifestyle for the well being of all Nevada residents.
As of April 14, 2006, there were 19 drug courts in Nevada that had
been in existence for more than 2 years, 4 that were recently implemented, and
4 that were being planned at that time. Methamphetamine was involved in 60% of
the Federal drug offenses in Nevada.
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) reported 207 drug
arrests in Nevada during 2005. The same year there were 8,405 adult and 1,188
juvenile arrests for drug possession violations in Nevada, not including those
by the highway patrol.
