Designated in 1996, the Midwest High Intensity Drug Trafficking
Area (HIDTA) consists of counties in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North
Dakota and South Dakota. In Nebraska, the Midwest HIDTA is responsible for the
following counties: Dakota, Dawson, Douglas, Hall, Lancaster, Sarpy, Madison,
Dodge, Gage, Jefferson, Platte, and Scotts Bluff.
As of August 23, 2006, there were 19 drug courts in existence or
being planned in Nebraska. Nine drug courts had been operating for more than 2
years, 2 were recently implemented, and 8 were being planned at that time.
Approximately two-thirds of the Federal drug cases in Nebraska involved
methamphetamine.
During 2005, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) reported
making 105 arrests for drug violations in Nebraska. Preliminary data indicate
that there were 10,134 adult and 1,163 juvenile arrests for drug abuse
