Kansas Drug Rehab Information
On April 1, 2003, Governor Sebelius of Kansas signed Senate Bill
123 into law. The law provides that offenders convicted of a first or second
drug possession offense (as the most serious offense) on or after November 1,
2003 will be sentenced to community corrections intensive supervision with a
requirement to participate in and successfully complete a certified drug
treatment program. These offenders will not be sentenced to a state
correctional facility.
There were 12,870 total adult drug arrests in Kansas in 2005 and
more than 2,000 juvenile drug arrests. As of September 21, 2006, there were 6
drug courts in existence or being planned in Kansas. Two drug courts had been
operating for more than 2 years, 2 were recently implemented, and 2 were being
planned at that time.
According to the 2006 Communities That Care survey, 16.2% of
Kansas 12th graders reported past month marijuana use. Approximately 10.5% of
Kansas students surveyed in 2006 reported being drunk or high at school within
the past year.
