Alaska Drug Rehab Information

The Alaska Meth Education Project has been developed as a statewide response to the growing methamphetamine problem in Alaska. A statewide strategic plan, including a media campaign consisting of TV, radio and print ads, will be developed as part of the Project.

As of November 22, 2006, there were 20 drug courts in existence or being planned in Alaska. Ten drug courts had been operating for more than 2 years, 2 had recently been implemented and 8 were being planned at that time. During 2006 about 38 percent of the Federally-sentenced defendants in Alaska had committed a drug offense, with about 40% of these drug offenses involving cocaine.

During 2005, there were 1,078 adult arrests for drug possession in Alaska. During 2006, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) reported making 121 arrests for drug violations in Alaska.
